I don't know whether I should attribute the 93-62 blowout win by the Celtics to great play or a very poor effort by the home team Bobcats. The Celtics were still without Shaquille O'Neal for the second straight game with a calf injury held the Bobcats to 34 percent shooting committing a dismal 22 turnovers in the losing cause. The Celtics were led by Kevin Garnett who managed a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The story of this game was the lack of energy or heart by the Bobcats on defense. They seemed to be a step slow on most defensive possessions allowing easy entry passes and penetrating drives with bad or no rotations for most of the night.
The Celtics which showed effort, also didn't play a perfect game by far. They shot 43% from the field but turned the ball over 18 times. For some reason the game was close for most of the first half as Boston only managed a 42-32 halftime lead. Slump or no slump there was no way the Celtics were going to get beat tonight. The Bobcats showed no anger or fight in the, to go to war with the visiting foes. Instead they watched as the Celtics got hot and continued to play hard and execute plays.
Glen Davis came up big as he has done for most of this 10 game win streak to score 16 points and grab 7 rebounds as he played tough and aggressive inside for Boston. Semih Erden played well in his second straight start scoring 10 points grabbing 7 rebounds and blocking 4 shots. He provided some energy on both ends of the floor and showed a good effort tonight. I think any minutes that he can get before playoff time will be crucial in his development. He still has a long way to go, but Doc Rivers is slowly bringing the Turkish big man along slowly.
The Bobcats did not manage to break 17 points in any quarter tonight. Larry Brown grew frustrated with his club from the beginning to end. Paul Pierce struggled shooting only 1-9 from the field finishing with only 8 points but showed his activity blocking 3 shots and grabbing 4 rebounds. Ray Allen helped the cause with 16 points shooting 2-4 from the three point line.
Larry Brown benched starter Nazr Mohhamed for the fourth quarter setting up the match up of all matchups in the post. Once Kwame Brown and Semih Erden started getting plays called for them I knew it was time to check out what was on The Discovery Channel to call it a night. People who were lucky to see Chamberlain vs Russell always comment blow for blow how great that matchup was. Lets just say tonight's Erden /Brown matchup won't be recited by anyone anytime soon....
