The Celtics have waived former UMass star Stephane Lasme, giving the final spot on this year's roster to Von Wafer.
Lasme, a 6-8 forward from the African nation of Gabon, said that he was disappointed but encouraged that he managed to hang around until the final cut.
"It came down to the end. (Doc Rivers) said I was an NBA player and not to worry about anything," Lasme, who said he was willing to go to the NBA Development League, told The Boston Globe.
The team also cut Mario West, a 6-5 guard who was not considered as strong a contender as Lasme.
Wafer (in picture, being guarded by West), a 6-5 guard who has played parts of the last four seasons with the Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets, Blazers and Rockets, struggled for much of the preseason but played better over the last week.
