URI wins Governor's Cup, 27-24, in overtime

SOUTH KINGSTOWN -- URI quarterback Steve Probst ran 25 yards for a touchdown on the Rams first play from scrimmage in overtime, and URI defeated Brown, 27-24, Saturday in the annual Governor's Cup game.

The score was 21-21 after four quarters. Alex Norocea put the Bears ahead with a 34-yard field goal in overtime, but Probst ended the drama with his burst up the middle.

Jarrod Williams opened the scoring for the Rams when he blocked a Nate Lovett punt and recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. at 9:24 of the first quarter. Alex Tounkara of Brown scored on a 61-yard catch and run play 35 seconds later. Probst put the Rams back in front with a 5-yard TD run with 5:06 remaining in the first quarter.

Alex Presltley's 21-yard touchdown reception and and Norocea's PAT made it 14-14 after three quarters. Probst bulled his way over the goal line at 14:22 of the fourh , but Jimmy Saros grabbed a 19-yard touochdown pass with 11:59 remaining in the fourth quarter, and Norocea's kick tied the score again.

A Family Weekend Crowd of 7,622, the largest in 10 years, packed Meade Stadium.

URI improved to 2-2. Brown dropped to 2-1.
