LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Louisville coach Rick Pitino insists that he's having one of the best years of his life. The Cardinals lost four players last season, including two who were drafted as NBA lottery picks. The team has been picked to finish sixth in the Big East Conference by one publication a year after winning the regular season and tournament titles. Pitino said at the Cardinal basketball team's annual tip-off luncheon Thursday afternoon that when the season starts, his team will show the country what it is about. The coach did not specifically mention a pending case against a woman charged with attempting to extort money from him or his sexual encounter with her, but charged fans to not become critics or negative. A university spokesman said the luncheon drew a sellout crowd of more than 1,100. |
