PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College sophomore goaltender Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ontario) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, October 12. For Beaudry, who earned two Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors last season, it marks the first time he has earned defensive player of the week accolades.

Beaudry led the Friars to a 2-1 season-opening victory over Holy Cross on Saturday, October 10 at Schneider Arena. He made 33 saves as PC recorded its first season-opening victory since 2004.

The Friars are back in action on Thursday, October 15 when they play the first of two games at No. 5 Notre Dame.
