BOSTON -- Harvard's defense stopped Brown's bid for a dramatic comeback in the last minute and sparked the Crimson to a 24-21 victory before 17,263 spectators at Harvard Stadium Friday night.

Bobby Sewall of Portsmouth scored all three Brown touchdowns, on runs of two yards and one yard and on a nine-yard reception with 33.8 seconds to play.

Brown recovered the onsides kick and got to the Harvard 25, but the Crimson secondary deflected Kyle Newhall's last pass to Sewall, preserving the victory.

Harvard wide receiver Matt Luft grabbed a 15-yard pass from Collier Winters at the back of the end zone and kept one foot in bounds for a touchdown, and Harvard leads Brown, 24-14, with 12:43 remaining in their Ivy League opener.

An official beside the play call the catch incomplete, but after a conference among three officials that decision was reversed.

Harvard had diven 92 yards in eight plays and gone ahead of Brown, 17-14 on quarterback Winters' three-yard run with 4:46 remaining in the third quarter. Patrick Long kicked the PAT.

Bobby Sewall of Portsmouth scored on runs of two yards and one yard, and Drew Plitcha made both PATs, enabling Brown to take a 14-10 lead at the half of their Ivy League opener.

Sewall's one-yard run with 2:48 remaining in the first half and Plitcha's PAT gave Brown a 14-7 lead. Sewall's run capped a 61-yard, 11-play drive. His 26-yard catch on third and 16 sustained the drive.

Harvard cut the lead to four points on Long's 25-yard field goal with 32 seconds left in the half.

Sewall had scored on a two-yard run, and Plitcha kicked the extra point, to give Brown a 7-0 lead with 12:16 remaining in the second quarter, but the Crimson came right back and tied the score on a 60-yard, two-play drive. Tight end Nicolai Schwarzkopf hauled in a 30-yard TD pass from quarterback Collier Winters with 11:33 to play in the half.

Neither team has been able to establish much on offense. Brown has 137 yards, Harvard 170.
