Peter Uihlein and Matt Broome both went extra holes Wednesday in the first round of the U.S. Amateur in Oklahoma, with Uihlein winning in 19 holes and Broome losing, also on the 19th.

Uihlein and James Sacheck of Texas were never more than one hole apart. Each had a turn on the lead. Sacheck birdied the 18th to force extra holes, but Mattapoisett's Uihlein won the 19th with a bird to advance.

Uihlein, an Oklahoma State star, will face Connor Driscoll of Encinitas, Ca., in Thursday morning's second round.

Rhode Island Country Club's Broome led Brad Revell of Canada, 3-up through 10. Revell won 11, 12 and 15 to pull even and birdied the first extra hole to win the match.

Others to advance included Northeast Amateur champion Dan Woltman, who beat Talor Gooch of Midwest City, Ok., 3 and 2.
