NEWPORT - Pittsburgh has been picked as the favorite to win what looms as a tight race in the Big East football conference this fall.
In a poll of media members released today at the league's annual media day at the Viking Hotel, the Panthers received 8 first place votes and finished first. West Virginia was second, Cincinnati third and South Florida fourth. All three of those schools received first place votes as well.
Here's the poll:
1. Pitt (8 first place votes) 161 points
2. West Virginia (5) 151
3. Cincinnati (8) 144
4. South Florida (3) 130
5. Rutgers 126
6. UConn 74
7. Louisville 51
8. Syracuse 27
