Brad Penny went 6 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run as he led the Red Sox over Baltimore, 3-1, Friday night. The victory snaps Boston's season-high five-game losing streak. It also is the 10th straight time the Sox have beaten Baltimore at Fenway. Penny allowed five hits. He did not walk anyone and struck out four. Manny Delcarmen, Hideki Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon all worked in relief, with Papelbon recording his 25th save. Baltimore loaded the bases with one out against Papelbon on two singles and a walk. Papelbon struck out Luke Scott then went to a full count before whiffing Melvin Mora swinging. All nine starters contributed to the Boston offense, either by reaching base or driving in a run. Mike Lowell had the key hit, a double down the line in left that keyed a two-run fourth. |
