David Sampson had to work a lot harder for his second Rhode Island Public Links Championship than his first. Sampson, a Warren resident who plays out of Swansea, successfully defended his Publinx title Monday by shooting a 71 at Cranston Country Club for a 36-hole total of 145. That gave him a one-stroke victory over Robert Glass III, who had a second-round 74 for 146. Jason Hull was third at 147. In the women's division, Judy Gravier edged Linda DaRosa by one shot, 174-175. Gravier had a second-round 87, DaRosa an 85.
