Sports Illustrated has published its list of the 50 top-earning American athletes in salary, winnings, endorsements and appearance fees. And here's a new twist: the average earnings of those on the list fell -- down $1.5 million per athlete to $23.6 million -- for the first time.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are one-two, followed by Lebron James.

New England athletes on the list: Kevin Garnett (6), Stephon Marbury (17), Paul Pierce (24), Ray Allen (27), Tom Brady (28), and David Ortiz (34).
