BY PAUL KENYON MIDDLETOWN -- The strangest local golf season in memory took still another weird turn Wednesday, this time with the R.I. Open as the stage. URI grad Mike Carbone won the event at Newport National, shooting a 9-under 207 over the 54 holes, one shot better than Shawn Warren, who works at the Dune Grass Club in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Those numbers barely begin to tell how unusual the day was. |
