Tonight's Red Sox-Braves forecast: Not nice, but playable

As yesterday demonstrated, we can give you the forecast, but we can't predict what they're going to do (start the game and then call it early when it does just what the forecasters were saying it was going to do all along).

Tonight the Red Sox and the Braves should not have any problem getting the game in, although a delay is possible. The forecast calls for some showers in the early evening, giving way to cloudy but dry conditions just around gametime. Temperatures should be relatively comfortable, in the mid- to upper 60s.

The game will feature a rare matchup of two Japanese pitching imports: struggling Red Sox Daisuke Matsuzaka against Atlanta's 32-year-old rookie right-hander Kenshin Kawakami. The Braves gave Kawakami a three-year, $23-million contract in the offseason. While his numbers for the season (3-6, 4.54) are better than Matsuzaka's (1-4, 7.55), he is also known as a nibbler who runs his pitch counts unnecessarily high. Good luck with that, Braves. Kawakami's last start came against Baltimore, when he gave up two runs over five innings (racking up 104 pitches) and taking a no-decision in an eventual Braves loss.

Atlanta has been hovering around .500 all season; they come in to tonight's game at 31-34.

The Braves are 25-20 all-time in interleague play against their former cross-town rivals, but the Sox have won eight of the last 10.
