New England Revolution forward Taylor Twellman was voted Major League Soccer's player of the week following his two-goal performance in the Revolution's 4-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. Twellman's two-goal effort was the 16th of his career and included his 100th career goal. He is the youngest player (29 years, 100 days) and fastest player (174 games) to reach the century mark in league history. Sunday's appearance was just Twellman's second of the 2009 season after he missed the first nine games of the year - and the 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs - with ongoing medical issues, including severe whiplash symptoms stemming from a punch to the head he sustained while scoring a goal against the LA Galaxy on Aug. 30, 2008, at Gillette Stadium. This is Twellman's eighth career player of the week award, and his first since Week 6 of the 2007 season. |
