SMITHFIELD -- Larry Lucchino, president and chief executive officer of the Boston Red Sox, was awarded an honorary degree today at Bryant University's undergraduate commencement ceremony in Smithfield. Bryant President Ronald K. Machtley praised Lucchino for his "unique business acumen" and "a long and successful track record" in running major league sports teams. Macthley described Lucchino as "the president of Red Sox Nation," and introduced him as "Doctor Lucchino" -- Lucchino was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters. -- NEIL DOWNING |
