R.I. Golf Association Hall of Famer George Pirie had four birdies on the way to a 1-under 69 at Wanumetonomy Tuesday and a share of the first-round lead in the Burke Memorial Championship.

The Valley star is tied for the lead with Luke Hyder of Wanumetonomy and Chuck Sullivan of Agawam Hunt. Hyder had a pair of deuces on the back nine while Sullivan, who plays for St. Anselm, overcame a double-bogey sixth on the fourth hole.

Another Hall of Famer, Paul Quigley, is tied for fourth, at 70, with Bobby Leopold of Potowomut. The event concludes today when the leaders will be playing at Shelter Harbor.

The scores are available on the RIGA Web site at rigalinks.org.
