PAWTUCKET -- Daisuke Matsuzaka loaded the bases with no outs to lead off the top of the second inning, but got out of the jam. He threw 23 pitches, 13 strikes in the inning. He's up to 33 total pitches. Matsuzaka allowed a leadoff single to the Hens' Brent Clevlen in the top of the second inning. He then stole second before Mike Hessman drew a walk. Matsuzka issued another walk, to Toledo's Don Kelly, to load the bases with no outs. PawSox pitching coach Rich Sauveur made a visit to the mound. But Matsuzaka settled in and retired the next three batters he faced. The Hens' Ryan Roberson popped out shallow right field, Dusty Ryan struck out swinging and Jason Tyner grounded out to Dice-K. -- JOE McDONALD |
