Bobby Leopold of Potowomut won his first R.I. Golf Association Championship Wednesday and did it in style, chipping in for birdie from 40 feet to edge Charlie Blanchard for the title in the Burke Memorial Championship at Shelter Harbor.

Leopold and Blanchard tied at 140, four strokes ahead of the field. Blanchard had a closing 69 and Leopold a 70. Both birdied the first hole of the playoff before Leopold won it with another bird on the second extra hole.

Paul Quigley of Metcomet added to his list of titles, already the longest in RIGA history, when he shot 74 for a 144 and the Senior Division title. That gave him third place overall and the title in the Senior Division by two strokes over fellow Hall of Famer George Pirie.

The event benefits the Burke Fund, the state's caddy scholarship fund.
