-- The Boston Celtics didn't win the NBA title this year, but they did receive another prestigious honor Thursday night at the New York Marriott Marquis in Manhattan.

That's where the Celtics were honored as the Professional Sports Team of the Year by Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily.

The Celtics beat out four other nominees for the award, including the Chicago Blackhawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays.

The Celtics sold out the 18,624-seat TD Banknorth Garden every game last season to set a record for attendance. The team also doubled its full-season ticket base to more than 10,000 and captured championship banner No. 17.

SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily are two leading publications on the business of sports. The Sports Business Awards recognize excellence and outstanding achievement in the sports industry for 2008.

The Boston Red Sox were named the 2007 Professional Sports Team of the Year, the first year that the awards were presented.
