| Final: Celtics 111, Bobcats 109, 2 o.t. »
-- The Celtics nearly made an improbable comeback after falling behind by eight with 2:02 remaining in the game after a Raja Bell 16-foot jumper. Charlotte called a timeout to set up the potential game-winning shot. With everyone in the stadium on their feet, Raymond Felton drove into the lane and then passed it to Boris Diaw. Diaw's hook shot hit the backboard, but no rim. He got his own rebound but the Bobcats were called for a 24 second shot clock violation before they got another shot off. Boston called a timeout with 3.6 seconds left and when they broke the huddle, the Superman theme song echoed throughout the arena. Superman, aka Paul Pierce, took the ball out, but he didn't take the final shot of regulation. Rajon Rondo did. He drove through the lane and let fly a floating jumper, but the shot fell short and the game went into overtime. Eddie House gave the Celtics their first lead in overtime, 98-97, with a 3-pointer from the top of the circle with 2:36 to go, but Gerald Wallace answered with a layup. After Charlotte got a stop on Boston's ensuing possession, the Bobcats, thanks to two offensive rebounds and a won jump ball, had four chances to score on their next possession. That was simply too many chances. Boris Diaw sank a 22-foot jumper from the right baseline to give the Bobcats a 101-98 lead with 19.4 seconds left. The Celtics called a timeout to draw up a play that would free up one of their 3-point specialists. Ray Allen took the shot - a 3-pointer from the right wing - and it hit nothing but net to tie the game at 101-101. Diaw came off a screen and had a good look at a 20-foot jumper at the buzzer, but he missed and the game went into double overtime. |
