By John Gillooly CRANSTON - Ed Hjerpe overcame a four-stroke deficit over the final 18 holes as he captured the individual title and led Barrington to the team title in the 27th annual Challenge Cup high school golf tournament Tuesday at the Alpine Country Club. Hjerpe fired a two-over par 74 in Tuesday's final round for a 36-hole total of 153 and a three-stroke margin of victory over three players who tied for second, Cumberland's Jamison Randall, Prout's Mark Mathieu and Barrington's Jared Adams. Barrington captured the team title with a total of 628. The Hendricken gold team finished second at 651 and La Salle was third at 660. Mia Landegren of Shapaug Valley High in Connecticut won the girls title with a one-stroke margin over La Salle's Juliet Vongphoumy, 156-157. |
