Jimmy Baron broke the single-game and tournament record for 3-pointers made at the 2009 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament -- an annual tournament that scouts prospective NBA players in Portsmouth, Virginia. In his final game at Portsmouth on Saturday, Baron connected on 9-of-15 shots from beyond the NBA-distance of 24'4", en route to scoring 33 points. He also added five rebounds, five assists and four steals in 34 minutes of action. The previous single-game mark was held by Cincinnati's Tony Bobbitt, who had six treys in a game during the 1994 tournament. Bobbitt and Kansas State's Askia Jones both connected on 13 shots from beyond the arc during the three-games in 1994. On Friday, Baron came off the bench to score 13 points - all in the second half. He hit five straight shots down the stretch - including three 3-pointers, to help his K&D Round's Landscaping team to a 70-68 victory. On day one, he had 12 points (4-17 FG; 4-14 3FG) and four rebounds in a 70-63 loss. Kahiem Seawright has also played well, as his Norfolk Naval Shipyard team advanced to the Portsmouth Invitational championship game on Saturday night. Last time out, on Friday night, the 6-8 forward scored 13 points his Norfolk Naval Shipyard squad. Seawright also added two assists and two steals in 25 minutes of play. In his first action, he grabbed five rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench. It marked the first time since the beginning of the 2006-07 season that Seawright did not appear in the starting lineup of a game (99 games during that span). --URI ATHLETICS |
