A report from former Journal sports writer Bob Leddy on yesterday's New England Interscholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships: Westerly High senior Andrew Springer Friday night added a fourth Rhode Island record to his indoor track resume. Competing at the New England Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Mass., the Bulldog senior won the two mile run in a meet-record time of 9 minutes, 2.58 seconds. He shattered the previous state-record time of 9:12.63, set in 2006 by Hendricken's Tom Webb. The Georgetown University-bound Springer also holds state indoor marks in the 1,500 (3:53.32), 3,000 meters (8:27.21) and mile (4:09.16). All of Springer's records were set during the 2008-09 indoor season. Other Rhode Islanders winning regional titles on Friday were Moses Brown's Jenna Poggi in the 55-meter hurdles (8.34), Barrington's Sarah Barry in the 1,000 (2:53.55), and defending New England indoor titlist Eryn Wheeler, of Coventry, in the 600 (1:32.80). In addition, the Hope girls' 4x400 relay, comprised of Angie Quiah, Mariah Sherrill, Lakisha DaCruz and Jasmine Marrow, clocked 4:00.58 to win their event. BOYS' INDOOR TRACK
