Chris Lowe -- aided by what appeared to be an illegal pick at midcourt that was not called by the referees -- scored on a end-to-end drive with 0.6 seconds remaining, giving the University of Massachusetts a 72-70=1 victory over the University of Rhode Island in their regular-season finale Saturday afternoon at the Ryan Center.

URI finished the regular season with an 11-5 conference record and a 22-9 overall mark. The loss may have damaged the Rams' hopes for an NCAA tournament bid . . . depending, of course, on what happens next week in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

More to come . . .

Appeared to be an illegal pick? Coach Baron was more than gracious postgame by referring to it as a great pick. It was nothing more than a mauling. Refs blew a couple of calls, like the 5 secs against Jones. Still, URI played terrible, especially Jones and Jimmy's shooting woes in the first half killed us.
