Celtics coach Doc Rivers just said it's "doubtful" point guard Rajon Rondo will play this afternoon after rolling his ankle in the first quarter Friday night against Cleveland. Rondo did return to the game that night, but the focus now is getting him -- and the rest of Boston's wounded -- ready for the stretch run and playoffs. To that end, while Kevin Garnett (right knee) is aiming to return to the court next Sunday against the Bucks, Rivers said that's not likely. "I'm gonna still say no earlier than next Sunday...but I didn't say that -- that's what (Kevin) told me. Last time Eddie (Lacerte, head trainer) and I talked, it was longer than that," Rivers said, fully aware that Garnett is pushing to get back on the court while even his teammates have been telling him not to rush it. "I think he understands -- obviously we want home court, but we believe we can win on the road. We want to go into the playoffs with guys being healthy." Ray Allen, whose streak of made free throws ended at 72 during the team's recent West Coast road trip -- putting him one ahead of Larry Bird for the franchise record in that category -- talked about what it takes to be so consistent at the stripe: "Focus. Great focus," said Allen. "You have to have preparation, you have to know how to calm yourself down at the free throw line." During a trip to Cleveland during his days with the Bucks, Allen said, he once made 100 straight free throws and stopped. He wondered if he could hit 100 and did it. |
