PEORIA, Ill. -- The nation's top-ranked women's basketball team in NJCAA-Division II proved too much for the Community College of Rhode Island yesterday as the Lady Knights lost to Kirkwood CC, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 61-40, in the second round of the NJCAA-Division II National Tournament at Illinois Central College. Amanda De La Cruz and McKensey Long led a balanced offensive attack with 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Eagles, who had 24 points from their bench. The Knights just had three. Kirkwood shot 52.6 percent (10-for-19) from three-point range led by Nicole Holman and Kalli Hansen, who made three apiece. Rachel Murray collected 7 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks and teammate Nicole Girard scored a game-high 13 points to lead CCRI, which will play in the consolation bracket today at noon.
