Tuesday night's Providence College basketball game in Tampa against the University of South Florida won't be on cable or any of the TV networks. But some local fans will be able to watch the game on their computers. ESPN360.com, which is part of cable sports network ESPN, has secured the exclusive rights to carry the game. The Web site will stream the action live. There's no extra cost to watch the game beyond your regular Internet access fee. Here's the catch. In order to watch the game, you have to be using an Internet service provider that has an affiliation with ESPN360.com. In Rhode Island, only Verizon Communications has this agreement, according to a spokesman for ESPN. So those who get their Internet access from Cox Communications, Full Channel, America Online or some other company are out of luck. ... Unless you know a college student, or someone on a military base. ESPN said it will make the Web cast available to any computer on a U.S. campus or military base computer network. The game starts at 7 p.m. |
