SEYMOUR, Conn. (AP) - The coach of the Seymour High School swim teams has been fired after nine members of the boys' squad were suspended from school for wearing T-shirts that criticized a former teammate. Superintendent of Schools MaryAnne Mascolo fired coach Kevin Quill on Friday, saying his behavior was appalling and inexcusable. Mascolo says he violated the school policy on bullying and had displayed repeated acts of poor judgment. Nine of the 11 members of the boys' swim team were suspended from school for one day for wearing T-shirts with the slogan "The Mascot is a Quitter" on the back on Jan. 30. The saying was directed at a boy who quit the team. School officials say Quill and team members came up with the slogan. Quill has not returned calls seeking comment. |
