BOSTON -- Both the Celtics and Spurs are teams that prides themselves on defense, but the second quarter was devoid of defense.

The Spurs outscored the Celtics, 38-29, and lead, 60-52 at halftime.

The Spurs knocked down 66.7 percent of their shots in the second quarter and did not turn the ball over once. On the bright side, the Celtics shot 60 percent.

For the game, the Spurs have knocked down 58.5 percent of their shots and the Celtics have connected on 52.3 percent of their shots.

The Celtics are having a hard time stopping Concord, New Hampshire native Matt Bonner, who leads the Spurs with 16 points.

The reigning defensive player of the year, Kevin Garnett (7 points, 6 rebounds), is guarding Bonner, but Bonner is lining up at the 3-point line instead of underneath the basket, and he has been deadly so far from 3-point range (2-for-3).

Garnett often helps Rajon Rondo (6 points, 7 assists) on the Spurs pick-and-roll, leaving Bonner open on the perimeter, and because Bonner is at the perimeter, Garnett can't help Perkins contain Tim Duncan (16 points, 7 rebounds).

The Celtics will need to make some adjustments at halftime to counter this problem if they hope to win the game.

Ray Allen leads the Celtics with 12 points.
