Interesting because the Knicks are in the midst of what has become a somewhat historic homestand -- although not historic in a very good way for Mike D'Antoni's team. On Monday night, Kobe Bryant scored a Madison Square Garden-record 61 points in leading the Lakers to a 126-117 victory over the Knicks. Then, last night, LeBron James had 52 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, making James one of only two visiting players (the other is Michael Jordan) to have recorded multiple 50-point games at the Garden. James was actually on pace to break Bryant's two -night old record when he put up 20 points in the first quarter. According to ESPN's SportsCenter, the Knicks are now the first team since the 1962 San Francisco Warriors to give up consecutive 50-point games to opposing players. In that case, the player in both games was the same man -- the Lakers' Elgin Baylor. So how can the Celtics follow up this act? And how did the Knicks get so unlucky as to host the NBA's three best teams in consecutive games over five nights? We'll get the answer to the first question, at least, tomorrow night. For now, let's get ready for the Lakers. |
