By Chris Venditto and Michael McDermott So are they really married? It's been the buzz all day: Tom Brady, the Patriot's quarterback (right, AP file photo), is said to have married his girlfriend of nearly three years, Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen. US Magazine.com is reporting that the two married Thursday at the St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica, Calif. So far, no official confirmation has come from the team or Brady's agent. The Santa Monica City Clerk's office, which typically handles marriage licenses, is closed today. The magazine reports that Gisele wore a "form-fitting ivory lace strapless gown with a trumpet skirt, scalloped edges, long train and a floor-length veil with attached handmade satin roses and attached satin headband, all by Dolce & Gabbana. Her three dogs also wore matching Dolce & Gabbana floral lace collars." The ceremony, according to the report, was very small and consisted of immediate family, including Brady's ex-girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan, and their son, John Edward Thomas Moynahan. Brady, 31, and Bundchen, 28, had denied reports that they were engaged. Rhode Islanders who heard about the news today sent their good wishes to the couple -- and the team! "Good for him," Providence Officer Patty Nichols said. "They got it over with, so he's not distracted during the season." "It's good," echoed Cheryl Melise of Providence. "As long as he still plays well, that's all that matters." But not quite all, she added; "he's a good looking guy, you know." The well-wishing reaches to the top of Rhode Island's Roman Catholic Church. "If indeed they were married in a Catholic Church, that's a good thing," said Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, a professed football fan (albeit of the Pittsburgh Steelers). "That's a blessing from God." While the Church frowns on pre-marital relationships, Tobin said Brady and Bundchen's decision to marry, reportedly, sends the right signal to young fans. "They are a celebrity couple, so that puts them on the spotlight," Tobin said. "That gives them the opportunity and, I think, the responsiblity to set a good example." -- With reports from Journal Staff Writer Maria Armental The original version of this blog, "Tom Brady reportedly marries Gisele Bundchen," was filed at 7:31 a.m. |
