Both Ray Allen and Doc Rivers said last night that they felt a foul should have been called on Derek Fisher following Allen's missed jumper at the buzzer of the Celtics' 110-109 overtime loss to the Lakers. The All-Star sharpshooter failed to reach the rim with his desperation shot, which came against tough defense from Fisher and Pau Gasol. "I thought I was pushed," Allen said, according to The Orange County Register. "I almost twisted -- I think I did twist -- my ankle. I thought I was fouled." Rivers, who said that Paul Pierce was the first option on the play, said that "It was a hand check the whole way. And unless the rules have changed, you can't do that." Bottom line: In two chances to win the game at the buzzer -- one at the end of regulation and one at the end of overtime -- the Celtics failed both times. And in two chances to beat the Lakers in the regular season, they failed two times. But don't worry too much. After 51 games this season, the Celtics are 40-11, which is exactly where they were after 51 games a year ago, when the team went on to win the NBA championship. |
