Former Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe has agreed to terms on a four-year, $60-million deal with the Atlanta Braves, according to a report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Lowe, 35, had also been pursued by the Braves' division rivals, the New York Mets. His arrival should soften the blow for Braves fans who are disappointed about the team's loss of John Smoltz to the Boston Red Sox.
Lowe went 14-11 with a 3.24 E.R.A. for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, and he finished very strong, cementing his status as a big-ticket free agent. In 2004, with the Red Sox, Lowe won the decisive games of the American League Division Series, the American League Championship Series and the World Series.
