deossie0123.jpgFormer Brown football star Zak DeOssie has been selected for the Pro Bowl, where he will join fellow Bears alum Sean Morey on the Andy Reid's NFC squad.

Reid, the Philadelphia Eagles coach who will coach the NFC team in Hawaii, selected DeOssie as his "need" player; each coach is allowed to select one such player at a position where he thinks the need for the game is greatest. DeOssie, who serves as long snapper for the New York Giants, joins a team that did not have anyone at that position. The Pro Bowl roster includes Giants kicker John Carney and punter Jeff Feagles, who serves as Carney's holder during the regular season. So the DeOssie selection allows Reid to use a snap-hold-kick combo with a history of working together.

"I am the luckiest kid on the planet," said DeOssie, according to the Giants' web site. "I'm sitting at home and the next thing I know I am going to be playing in the Pro Bowl. It is very, very exciting.

Morey, of the Super Bowl-bound Arizona Cardinals, is a Pro Bowl selection for his special-teams work.
