Times are tough everywhere, but nowhere is job security more tenuous than in the NBA, where the Sixers' Maurice Cheeks yesterday became the fifth coach to be fired this season. And it's still almost two weeks 'til Christmas. Previously whacked by impatient owners and GMs were Oklahoma City's P.J. Carlesimo, Washington's Eddie Jordan, Toronto's Sam Mitchell, and the Timberwolves' Randy Wittman. Those teams might be better off firing the players. Too bad that never happens. |
