PROVIDENCE - It's snowing like crazy right now in downtown Providence but the Big East does not have a case of Rhode Island's Snowitis: Today's PC game is on.
The St. John's Red Storm is in town and assuming the three officials arrive, the game will begin as scheduled at 4 p.m.
Parking downtown will be dicy. Show up early and head to one of the city's several garages. That's your best bet. Enjoy the city, which is sponsoring its annual BrightNite festivities as planned.
As for the game, it's a huge one for the Friars. The Big East gave Keno Davis a gift by bringing SJU and DePaul (on Saturday) to town right off the bat. Now it's up to the players to take advantage. These are two games PC will be favored in (7.5 points today). That won't be a common occurence in a deep Big East this winter.
A few Friar droppings: Alex Kellogg has returned to practice and will be ready to help out if needed today. His balky knee has responded to rest, apparently.
Also, Davis will announce sometime today that sophomore forward Greedy Peterson and frosh forward Bilal Dixon will indeed be redshirted. He held out until this point to protect against an injury to one of PC's four post players (Kellogg, Randall Hanke, Jon Kale, Geoff McDermott).
Is it a wise decision to hold out two kids who would certainly help at times this year, and protect against injury, in the sake of future success? You can debate that over your pre-game beer at Murphy's, Shula's, Trinity Brewhouse or the other pleasant downtown establishments.
