The latest issue of Sports Illustrated includes a feature on the Boston Bruins' Phil Kessel, a player that SI describes as "the most heralded young player in U.S. hockey history" when he was a teenager. That was before Kessel found out he had testicular cancer, which was diagnosed and treated during his rookie season of 2006-07; and before Kessel's rocky second season, in which he finished -6 (worst among Bruins forwards). After the regular season, Kessel was a healthy scratch for part of the playoffs, an indication of Claude Julien's disappointment in the talented 20-year-old. But this season, as his Bruins have gotten off to a fast start, Kessel seems to have arrived. As the Sports Illustrated article, by Michael Farber, puts it: "This is a different Kessel, a look-you-in-the-eye-and-speak-from-the-heart guy who is ready to work at hockey instead of merely play it." I can't find a link to the story on SI's web site, but it's in the edition of the magazine that's on newsstands now -- the one with UConn hoops stars Hasheem Thabeet and Maya Moore on the cover. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

Why is there a photo of Marc Savard for an article about Phil Kessel?
