BOSTON -- The Denver Nuggets have officially worked out a buyout with forward Antonio McDyess for $6 million today, according to Denver's Rocky Mountain News. McDyess was traded to Denver with Chauncey Billups and Cheikh Samb last week from Detroit for Allen Iverson. McDyess did not want to play for Denver and asked for a buyout of his contract. If he clears waivers, McDyess will become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday. The Celtics are one of several teams that have expressed interest in McDyess, who has never won a championship. Several reports state that McDyess wants to return to Detroit after a 30-day waiting period. When asked about the possibility of acquiring McDyess before the Celtics game against Milwaukee last week, Boston coach Doc Rivers said, "We're always looking." McDyess's veteran presence would be a big boost to Boston's frontcourt. The 6-foot-9, 245 pound power forward was an All-Star in 2001. He averaged 8.8 points and 8.5 rebounds last season. |
