Brown's Phil Estes named finalist for Eddie Robinson award

Brown head football coach Phil Estes, who led Brown to its third Ivy League Championship this season, has been named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, presented annually to the NCAA Division I FCS Coach of the Year. Estes is a finalist for the award for the third time in his career.

Voting will be conducted this week and winners will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 18 during the 22nd annual Sports Network awards dinner at the Marriott Hotel in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Picked in the preseason to finish third in the Ivy League, Estes led the Bears to an Ivy League co-championship and a 6-1 league record, 7-3 overall. Brown also beat Harvard, the team it tied for the Ivy League crown.

Since becoming the head coach at Brown in 1998, Estes has guided the Bears to Ivy League titles in 1999, 2005 and 2008, while finishing in the top half of the Ivy League in eight of 11 seasons.

Estes' career coaching mark stands at 66-43 (.605), with an Ivy League record of 47-29 (.618).
