University of Rhode Island quarterback Derek Cassidy is the Colonial Athletic Association offensive player of the week for his heroics in the Rams' 37-13 Governor's Cup triumph over Brown on Saturday. Cassidy completed 25 of 37 passes for 298 yards, his fifth 200-yard passing game this season, and five touchdowns, his career best. Cassidy, a senior, is the second QB in URI history to throw five touchdown passes in a game. URI Hall of Famer Tom Ehrhardt set the record of eight against Connecticut in the regular-season finale in 1985. He threw five TD passes against Brown in 1984 and five against Lehigh, Lafayette and Akron in 1985. An option quarterback in his first three seasons at URI, Cassidy leads the CAA in passing yards (271.3) and total offense (272) in the Rams new pass-oriented scheme. URI (2-4, 0-2) is at Towson (2-4, 0-2) this week.
