Click the play button below to hear Jim Donaldson's comments, recorded this morning from Anaheim. The topics: The Red Sox' professional approach to the postseason, whether the Angels will adopt a more patient approach with Daisuke Matsuzaka, Los Angeles starting pitcher Ervin Santana's great comeback season, and why Jim would really like to see the Cubs beat the Dodgers -- even if that looks increasingly unlikely.
Here's what Jim said about the Angels and Matsuzaka:
"You'd like [Matsuzaka] to throw a lot of pitches and presumably get out of the game early, which has been one of his few faults if you want to fault him for anything this year. But having said all that, if that's not what you normally do, if you usually go up there and hack at the first good pitch you see, changing your batting style can mess you up more than help you."
And about Ervin Santana:
"He was down at Triple-A last year ... he's bounced back and had a very good year, no reason to think that he won't pitch very well tonight. There were some mechanical issues that he's ironed out. But the Red Sox are a team that is very patient at the plate, that does run the pitch count up, that doesn't swing at a lot of bad balls, that makes a pitcher work, and so Santana will have his work cut out for him, particularly in a game that the Angels cant afford to lose."
