Halloween special -- The 10 scariest hockey masks in the NHL

mask1031.jpgThere's no piece of equipment in sports that says as much about its owner as the hockey mask. And if you've seen any of the Friday the 13th movies (after the second one, of course, when Jason replaced that leather bag thing), you know the creepy power that the mask can evoke.

Brilliant idea by The Hockey News, then, to list the 10 scariest masks in history. You can see photos of each of the site's picks by following the link.

The Saw-inspired mask, seen at right (click on the photo to enlarge), that is worn by Tampa Bay's Mike Smith comes in number two on the list, while Andy Moog's Boston Bruins mask is listed number one. For the record, there is nothing farther down the list that scares me more than the sight of that Jacques Plante mask from 1959. One of the most unintentionally scary things I've ever seen.
