Who is eating crow today? The Philadelphia fans who last year were calling for the firing of Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. The laidback Manuel was not an instant hit in Philly, a town that favored hard-charging (and often not very successful) skippers like Larry Bowa. But Manuel's Phils rallied down the stretch last year to win the National League East, and there they were last night, celebrating the second World Series title in the franchise's long, tortured history.

Today, Kurt Laufer, who last year ran the web site FireUncleCharlie.com, which featured an online petition urging the team to dump the manager, said he is sorry, according to Philly.com:

"While I'd like to take a little credit for the turn-around that occurred just after we launched the site last summer (and consequently took down immediately once they started winning last August), I'd like to formally apologize to Charlie, his family, and any of his supporters over the years, says Laufer. "I'm considering a new Web site, "SignHimtoaLifelongContract.com"....he's earned it," says Laufer. "The players rallied around this guy, we've always thought he was a good man, and I'm grateful that he's brought a championship to Philadelphia ! God Bless Charlie Manuel!"
