Bill Belichick opened today's news conference at Gillette Stadium with an unusually big smile, and it was clear that he wasn't thinking at that moment about the Denver Broncos. Here's what the coach said to start out the session:

"Anybody get a good night sleep? I couldn't turn it off. It didn't look too good there when it was 7-0, and then it's 7-1, 7-4, and 7-6. I thought the Red Sox played with the heart of a champion last night. That's pretty impressive. That's the difference between baseball and football. You can't run out the clock, you've got to get them out. ... Joe Torre told me that. And La Russa verified it. You've got to get them out. They give me a hard time about that. 'You guys get the lead, you can just sit on the ball and run the clock out.' We've got to get them out. Somebody's got to pitch. Somebody's got to get them out. Good point there."
