Here's what Sean said on how high attendance translates to wins:
"You can see it on the faces of guys like Bay and Kotsay -- guys who have played in the big leagues for a while but have not played in this kind of environment before. Here it is on a Wednesday getaway day in the middle of the week in September, against a last-place team, and the place is packed, and you have that playoff atmosphere, and there's no question that that contributes to their success at home. You only have to look at a team like Tampa ... which is averaging slightly more than 20,000 a game, and they've been very disappointed in the last few weeks that even as they post the best record in the American League, that fans have not turned out for some of those series.

"It's kind of funny to look back and see video highlights of Red Sox games as recently as earlier this decade, where a ball gets hit into the right-field corner and you see all the empty seats in the right-field box seats and grandstands. That's unthinkable now, because you just assume that every game is going to be sold out, and that playoff intensity and environment is going to exist for every game, regardless of time of year or opponent."
