Two of the PGA's best lefties, Mike Weir and Phil Mickelson, have made the big news early in the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship, although for different reasons. It was all good news for Weir. The Canadian followed up his career-best 61 yesterday with a 68 today at the TPC of Boston. That has allowed him to maintain the lead with half the field finished. Weir is at 13-under 129. Jim Furyk just completed a 65 to move into second place at 131. Mickelson, the defending champion, had a very different day. After opening with a 69, he was 4-over in his first seven holes today. That put him well below the cutline. He rallied hard to keep himself alive. He was 5-under in his final 11 for a 70 and a 139 total. That almost certainly will allow him to play the final two rounds. The cut currently stands at 140, although it could get to 139. |
