MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that Kotsay was hoping to be at Yankee Stadium in time for tonight's ball game. He was hoping to catch a 2:40 flight from Atlanta to New York.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported that Kotsay will receive a $325,000 assignment bonus for agreeing to waive his no-trade clause for the Red Sox, a team Rosenthal reports was one of eight on Kotsay's no-trade list.

Kotsay told Bowman he was excited to be joining the Red Sox in the heat of a pennant race. He will wear uniform number 11. The team will make a roster move when Kotsay does make it to New York -- either tonight or before tomorrow's game.

Kotsay batted .289 with six home runs and 37 RBI in 81 games with the Braves; he has hit at a .320 clip over his last 35 games and hit for the cycle on Aug. 14 against the Cubs. A left-handed hitter, he batted .305 against right-handers.

Kotsay has played 84 games in center field without committing an error this season.

Before joining the Braves this season, the 32-year-old Kotsay played for the Marlins (including the 1997 world championship team), the Padres and the A's.

He should see regular time in the Red Sox lineup with J.D. Drew on the disabled list.
