Friday at midnight is the deadline for major-league teams to sign their picks from the spring's first-year player draft, and the Boston Red Sox remain without a deal to suit up Portsmouth High School graduate Ryan Westmoreland. According to a roundup of unsigned draft choices on the Baseball America Web site, Westmoreland may get a seven-figure signing bonus. The Red Sox drafted Westmoreland in the fifth round with the 172nd overall pick. If he does not sign, Westmoreland has a scholarship to play baseball at Vanderbilt University. We'll update you on the SoxBlog if there is any word on a Westmoreland deal. |
