Patty Schnyder of Switzerland defeated East Greenwich native Jill Craybas, 6-3, 6-2, in their first round match at the Summer Olympics in Beijing. Schnyder, ranked No. 16 in the world, is seeded 13th in the tournament. Craybas, ranked No. 75, was unseeded. Schnyder improved to 3-0 in career matches against Craybas.
