Click the play button below to hear Joe McDonald's comments, recorded this morning. The topics: Why Daisuke Matsuzaka is so good with the bases loaded, and so mediocre the rest of the time; Kevin Youkilis as the 2008 Red Sox MVP; Josh Beckett's mysterious sensation of numbness; and the Tampa Bay Rays continuing to roll.
Here's some of what Joe said about Beckett:
"This could be a very serious problem. Anytime a pitcher talks about tingling or numbness in the fingers, that's not a good thing. He was very vague about it, Terry Francona was very vague -- they were kind of dancing around the situation in the clubhouse yesterday before the game. It's something that they know could be a serious problem; let's just hope for his own sake, personally, that it's not. Let's just hope it's something that -- maybe he did sleep on it wrong. But he seemed very concerned about it, and I'm sure he's going to go through a battery of tests until they figure out exactly what it is. But this is something they're going to have to keep a close eye on. ... They pushed him back, and his next start would be on Tuesday in New York, but at this point I would be very surprised to see if that actually happened."
